Gender Female.
Status: Deceased, ghost/angel.

The tall ghost girl, as described by Coraline Jones, is one of the three ghost children who fell victim to the beldam. Her real name is a mystery as she does not remember what it is.

She is presumed to be the first victim due to her old-fashioned clothing. Based on her clothing as well as her appearance, she most likely lived between the 1830s-1850s. She is featured in a tattered dress and bonnet, and has a slight midwestern accent. Her facial expression is that of exaggerated terror.

Plot Appearance[]

An excerpt from the main article: Coraline (filmography)

Coraline meets the ghost in the mirror. They explain to her all about what they have been through due to the beldam and that she is in great danger of becoming one of them.

She and the other two ghosts insist she must leave the Beldam's world and go straight home. They also ask her to find their eyes so they too can escape.

The tall ghost girl is the second of the three ghosts that Coraline saves. Coraline referred to her as "pioneer girl" once while talking to Wybie. The Beldam put her real eyes in the pearl ring worn by the Other Miss Forcible.

An excerpt from the main article: Coraline (books)

She is the first to talk, and explains to Coraline the situation the ghosts are in. She holds Coraline's hand, and is noted to be extremely cold.

Once Coraline saves the souls of all the other children and her parents, she, along with the other children visit her in her dream, and she apparently wore a brown dress and bonnet. She eats bread and jam at the picnic in Coraline's dream.

Video Game

In the game, she appears with the 2 other ghost children. Because the mirror scene is only dialogue based, we have no other information about it throughout the rest of the game. She will also appear when interacting with the mirror in the other world after getting the stone.

  • In the movie, the end credits names this character as "The Tall Ghost Girl" but, in the movie, Coraline also described the tall ghost girl as the "the pioneer girl."
  • In the movie, the silhouettes of the three ghost children are seen on the wall of the dining room in the other world, perhaps signifying that they are what the Beldam "dines" on.
  • In the book, her brown bonnet, shapeless dress, and the food she eats in the afterlife implies that she lives in the 1930s, during the Great Depression and WWII.
