Coraline, also known as Coraline: The Game, is a 2009 game based on the film of the same name. It was released on January 27, 2009, in close proximity to the film's theatrical release.[1]

The game was released on the Wii, Playstation 2, and the Nintendo DS.

Plot Synopsis[]

Coraline game2

Coraline in the garden.

11-year-old Coraline Jones moves into the Pink Palace Apartments in Ashland, Oregon with her busy parents, Mel Jones and Charlie Jones. When Coraline does all her tasks her parents asked her to do, she goes to meet her neighbors, Sergei Alexander Bobinsky, and April Spink and Miriam Forcible. After the ladies tell her about an old well not far from the house grounds, Coraline decides to find it by using a dowsing rod. While searching, she meets an odd boy named Wybie Lovat, and it would appear that Wybie plans to assasinate her. Although Coraline found Wybie annoying, he showed her where the well was.

After returning home, Coraline goes to sleep in her new bedroom. She then wakes up hearing a strange noise and sees a mouse in her bedroom. Thinking its one of Mr. Bobinsky's mice, she chases it to the parlor of her home and finds a small door. She enters through the door into another world, a world where everyone has buttons for eyes.

Inside the House[]

The opening of the game begins with a slideshow of highly detailed drawings of various characters with a voiceover depicting Coraline's move to the Pink Palace and her parent's occupations. The game then continues with an in-game cutscene re-enacting the scene from the film in which Coraline is wandering around the house, pestering both her parents in the same fashion of that in the film, yet cleverly manipulating it into a tutorial. The player is then let loose and instructed to find various blue items, similar to that of the movie. You then may travel upstairs which is the first time you may get buttons, which act as an in-game currency. After this you must complete a series of miscellaneous chores for her father.

The Shop and Button Accumulation[]

The Shop[]

When you access the start menu you are presented with the option to access the shop in which you may spend the Blue Buttons found around the game by doing various things such as interacting with various objects in and around the house.
